Plínio Simões Barbosa is a member of the Brazilian Bar Association, in the Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Brasília sections. He is a member of the Energy Committee of Amcham – The American Chamber of Commerce of Rio de Janeiro, and has served as one of Amcham's Directors. He is also a member of the Audit Committee of the Arbitration and Mediation Chamber of Rio de Janeiro, and has been a member of the Arbitration Committee of Andima and of the Arbitration Commission and the Arbitral Tribunal of the Brazilian Bar Association of Rio de Janeiro - OAB/RJ.

In the business sector, Plínio was a member of the Board of Directors of Peróxidos do Brasil S.A. (2006 – 2012) and acted as Secretary for Arcelor Brasil S.A.'s Board of Directors and subsequently ArcelorMittal S.A.'s (2005 – 2007). He served on the Board of Directors of Companhia Siderúrgica Belgo-Mineira (1997 – 2005) and the Board of Directors of Caemi Mineração e Metalurgia S.A. (1997 – 2001).
