The Análise DNA+Fenalaw 2024 awards, organized by Análise Editorial and Fenalaw, one of the largest fairs in the legal market, highlighted the work of BMA Diversidade as a “Recognized Practice” for its actions to include Black professionals.

This year’s edition of the awards recognized initiatives in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion, Management, Marketing and Technology. In the first stage of the award process, the candidates were reviewed by a team of Análise Editorial’s staff, and the candidates selected for the second stage were then evaluated anonymously by a panel of experts.

The features of BMA’s Diversity program highlighted by the panel were:

  • Internship positions exclusively for Black candidates.
  • English language bursaries for all Black interns, and training focused on professional development and legal skills to enhance the content of the internship program.
  • Internal mentoring program for Black trainees and lawyers.
  • External consultancy to organize meetings for Black lawyers and interns to provide a safe space and to identify action that BMA can take to retain and develop talents.
  • Training, events, campaigns, production of materials and lectures on D&IE and racial literacy for all members.
  • A group of diversity ambassadors created to bring attention to racial issues, encourage reflection, and design and implement actions to support D&IE.

In 2023, we made good progress in fostering and expanding diversity at our firm: In September 2023, 19% of our professionals were Black, and by July 2024 that percentage had risen to 23%. We know that there is still a long way to go, and we remain committed to taking practical action that promotes diversity and inclusion in the legal sector and in the job market as a whole.
