Paulo Cezar Aragão wins Lawyer of the Year in M&A at the Who’s Who Legal Awards 2022
Love for the law, quick to find innovative solutions, and careful to keep abreast of changes: these are some of the qualities that describe the work of Paulo Cezar Aragão, one of our founding partners, in a career spanning more than four decades.
Paulo’s dedication to the law and prominent role in M&A transactions was recognized in the Who’s Who Legal Awards 2022, which named our partner as Lawyer of the Year in the M&A category.
The reorganization of Fleury S.A., involving the combination of the businesses and shareholders of Fleury and Instituto Hermes Pardini S.A., and the business combination of Aliansce Sonae Shopping Centers S.A. and brMalls are just two of the transactions undertaken by Paulo in 2022.
Paulo’s personal history is woven through the history of major M&A transactions in Brazil, with his work in highly complex deals such as the privatization of Telebras, the merger of Brazilian breweries Brahma and Antarctica, resulting in the creation of Ambev, and the subsequent international association of Ambev with Interbrew, creating InBev, along with the combination of Sadia and Perdigão, creating BRF.
Paulo’s contribution to business law goes beyond his work in M&A transactions – through his work in education, publication of articles, and lectures and other speaking events, he helps prepare practitioners to take on the challenges that the market presents.
Paulo also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 for his contributions over the course of his career.
Because of the pandemic, the 2020 awards ceremony was postponed, so on November 16th Paulo received his two awards, the Lifetime Achievement Award 2020 and the Lawyer of the Year M&A 2022, at a ceremony held in London.
We congratulate Paulo on these two significant achievements, which reflect his work, his dedication and his love for the law. The awards recognize his important role in M&A and his contribution to society through the law.
