Transactions advised by BMA receive awards from LatinFinance
Two transactions that were advised by different BMA teams received awards at the "2019 Deals of the Year Awards", promoted by LatinFinance. In the "Cross Border M&A deal of the year" category, the purchase of TAG by Engie was recognized, while Suzano's acquisition of Fibria took the prize in the "Domestic M&A deal of the Year" category.
Engie was advised by BMA in the Compliance, Investigations and Law Enforcement areas, with participation by the partners and lawyers Plínio Barbosa, Anna Carolina Malta Spilborghs, José Guilherme Berman, Camila Cuschnir and Luis Marcelo Abdalla Jaued, along with others. The firm's Competition area, in turn, advised Suzano in connection with the creation of a pulp and paper industry giant, with the work of partners Barbara Rosenberg, Marcos Exposto and lawyer Isadora Telli.
"The anti-corruption compliance work for the acquisition of the Petrobras subsidiary TAG, by Engie, was a major challenge and we were pleased to be a part of it. There was a tight deadline and there was a lot of pressure, but there was also a great deal of collaboration between all of those involved, particular with the in-house legal teams of Engie (Ana Mellone and Christina Barbosa); of Herbert Smith Freehills LLP (John J. O'Donnell) and of PWC (Leonardo Lopes), as well as with the other firms involved", Anna Carolina explained regarding the case.
