BMA Announces New Partners and New Counsel

​We are pleased to introduce our new partners: João Rafael Castro de Oliveira (Dispute Resolution), Luis Marcelo Abdalla Jaued (Infrastructure and Regulatory & Government Affairs), Maria Donati (Corporate and M&A) and Maria Sampaio (Competition Law). We also announce our new counsel, Lilian Ghitnick Arcalji, from the Intellectual Property practice.

João Rafael Castro de Oliveira is a member of BMA’s Dispute Resolution team, with a strong track record in arbitration and high-complexity litigation, including contractual and corporate disputes. He holds a law degree and a specialization in Civil Procedure from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-RJ). His practice combines technical rigor with a strategic, solution-oriented approach for clients involved in litigation and arbitral proceedings.

Luis Marcelo Abdalla Jaued is an attorney with extensive experience in Infrastructure and Regulatory & Government Affairs, as well as Oil & Gas. He has strategically advised Brazilian and international clients across various sectors on matters involving regulated markets and interactions with the public sector. His practice combines in-depth knowledge of the Brazilian regulatory environment and judicial disputes involving public authorities and entities with a technical and strategic approach, contributing to the development of complex projects and the management of administrative and judicial challenges related to regulated and state-controlled sectors. Luis Marcelo holds an LL.M. in State and Regulatory Law from FGV and an LL.M. from Columbia University in New York, where he also worked at Kobre & Kim. He is currently awaiting admission to the New York Bar.

Maria Donati practices in the Corporate and M&A area, playing a key role in corporate transactions and complex business deals, and advising Brazilian and international companies across various industries. Focused on strategic corporate law matters, she combines technical expertise with a business-oriented perspective to support mergers, acquisitions and corporate reorganizations, as well as the structuring of sophisticated transactions. Maria is also a member of BMA’s Mining and Metals Industry group and has experience as a foreign associate at Kirkland & Ellis in New York.

Maria Sampaio is part of BMA’s Competition Law team, with a practice focused on complex competition law matters, including antitrust investigations and compliance, investigations of anticompetitive conduct, and representation in proceedings before regulatory authorities and courts. Her expertise in antitrust and regulatory matters enables her to provide clients with technical and strategic analyses in cases involving competitive markets and regulatory challenges in Brazil.

Lilian Ghitnick Arcalji specializes in Intellectual Property, with a focus on patents. With solid experience in the field, Lilian advises clients on technical matters related to the protection and management of industrial property rights, including patentability strategies and complex innovation issues. She is also recognized for her contributions to publications and technical discussions in the sector, reflecting her active role in advancing legal knowledge in intellectual property.
